Intermediate Spanish Classes
Low-Intermediate Spanish / Spanish 2
For students with a solid foundation in Beginner Spanish (present tense) wishing to advance to more complex verb tenses and structures (e.g., describing events in the past, present perfect, future, and conditional tenses). This course integrates the applications of many small but problematic words and lays the foundation for using the prepositions Por and Para as well as direct and indirect object pronouns in everyday speech. Students will build vocabulary around food, cooking, travel, technology, and health while increasing fluency in reading, writing, and speaking. More advanced reading and listening comprehension are areas of focus. This level is equivalent to Spanish 2 in high school and college. This is a multi-month course.
High-Intermediate Spanish / Spanish 3
For students with a strong grasp of Low-Intermediate Spanish wishing to incorporate more advanced verb tenses and structures. This class begins with a solid review and practice of the past tenses (preterite and imperfect) as well as the present perfect and pluperfect tenses. We will then cover temporal expressions with the verb HACER, formal and informal commands, present and imperfect subjunctive, future and conditional compound tenses, and nuanced applications of pronouns and prepositions. This class will also introduce more sophisticated vocabulary and elaborate conversational fluency. This level builds on the vocabulary taught in Low-Intermediate Spanish while adding in sophisticated connectors and idioms. High-Intermediate Spanish is equivalent to Spanish 3 in high school and college. This is a multi-month course.
